Spätburgunder 2018
An earthy, stony wine, think dark cherries, rhubarb and herbs. Crispy acidity, complex and mineral. A wine that can age for a long time.
The Spätburgunder 2018 (also known as Pinot Noir) hails from an old limestone vineyard near Volkach. With its first vintage 2015 it drafted a new idea of German Pinot: acidic, light, neutral oak. With a mix of whole bunches and destemmed crushed berries, the wine is aged in neutral barrels to allow for breathing without overpowering with oak flavors. The wine gets racked and tank-aged for at least 18 months, for the tannins to polymerize before being bottled.
